What is the Course About?
This one‑year programme introduces you to key skills and knowledge needed to explore careers within the construction and built environment sector. You will investigate four mandatory units:
• Being Organised
• Developing a Personal Progression Plan
• Working with Others
• Researching a Topic
While also exploring different vocational areas within construction.
By studying a range of practical options, you’ll broaden your understanding of the industry and begin shaping ideas about your future career path.
Will I need a DBS check for this course?
No, you will not need a DBS check.
Will I need any specific resources, uniform and/or kit?
Yes, you will need:
• Clothing suitable for workshop activities
• Safety footwear (steel top-capped boots)
These ensure you can take part safely in practical sessions.
Will I undertake a work placement as part of the course?
No, however you will have lots of opportunities to build employability skills, and your lecturers have worked in the industry, which means you will benefit from their experience.
What are the days and hours of the course?
You will study for approximately 16 hours per week.
Days and times may vary depending on the subjects you choose.
Once you receive an unconditional offer, your timetable will be provided during Induction in September.

Assessments can be through practical or written assessments or exam.
Entry requirements
There are no formal entry requirements. However, it is ideal if you are working at Entry Level 3 in English and Maths.
