Learn4Life

Our Learn4Life series of events is designed to support the Island's industries with upskilling and lifelong learning, by exploring current trends and emerging topics.

The events are a mixture of breakfast, lunch and twilight sessions to suit a wide range of industries, with event styles including keynote guest speakers, panel sessions and workshops.

As well as being great opportunities for Continued Professional Development, our events offer a chance for networking as well as finding out more about the Upskilling courses we offer that relate to the topic of that event.

Fuelling Business Growth Through Apprenticeships

Whatever sector you're in, whether you’re a business who already has an apprenticeship scheme or something that you haven’t tried for recruiting new talent into your business, this event is ideal for you.

Through the interactive event, a panel of local industry experts will share their experience of the benefits of apprenticeship schemes for their organisations. The panel represents a wide range of industries including:

  • Shelley Langan-Newton, CEO of award-winning tech company SQR
  • Peter Reid, who is Chair of Skills Isle of Man and Former Island Director and Head of Banking Operations at Lloyds Bank
  • Christopher Hood, Engineering Manager at Triumph
  • Jason Bissel, Chair of Biosphere Isle of Man
  • Paul Irving, Director of Education and Head of the School of Nursing at Health for Manx Care

The panel will be chaired by Olly Newton who is the Executive Director at Edge Foundation and has spent 12 years at the UK’s Department for Education, most recently as Head of Apprenticeship Strategy. Olly was also Specialist Adviser to the House of Lords Committee on Youth Unemployment and a Commissioner on the Independent Assessment Commission.

The event is a collaboration of Skills Isle of Man, UCM, The Department of Education, Sport and Culture and the Department for Enterprise (DFE) who have joined forces for National Apprenticeship Week (NAW25), aiming to highlight the benefits apprenticeship schemes have for businesses.
