Level 3 Extended Diploma in Engineering
What is the Course About?
The Level 3 Extended Diploma in Engineering, equivalent to 3 A Levels (UCAS points 48-168),
is delivered over two years.
What units will I study?
There are 7 mandatory units which must be studied, these are:
Engineering principles (examined)
Delivery of engineering processes safely as a team
Engineering product design and manufacture (examined)
Applied commercial and quality principles in engineering
A specialist engineering project
Microcontroller systems for engineers (examined)
Calculus to solve engineering problems
Further units will be studied which may include:
Computer aided design in engineering
Engineering maintenance and condition monitoring techniques
Mechanical measurement and inspection technology
Electrical installation of hardware and cables
Electronic devices and circuits
Mechanical behaviour of metallic materials
Computer programming
Additive manufacturing
Will I need a DBS check for this course?
No
Will I need any specific resources, uniform and/or kit?
Personal Protective Equipment will be provided.
Learners must provide their own stationery and laptop (laptops can be borrowed from UCM).
What are the days and hours of the course?
Your timetable will be issued during induction at the start of term in early September. As a full time course you will be expected to study for 3 days per week during college term time. You will be expected to attend the William Kennish Engineering Centre on Greenfield Road.

The course is assessed using a combination of external examination and internally assessed coursework.
Entry requirements
GCSE Grade C Mathematics, Science, English language and one other subject
