What is the Course About?
The construction sector is vital in contributing to the Islands economy and in providing the essential infrastructure to support other sectors. In light of the current economic climate, it is more essential than ever to gain skills and qualifications in this area, to improve future prospects and career progression. All our tutors are experienced master craftsmen and women and progression through the course might be able to provide an opportunity for an apprenticeship or full-time employment in the construction industry. Electricians work with electricity and need to fully understand how it works and how to fit electrical installations safely and reliably to the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations. This qualification is aimed at learners aged 16 and above who aspire to be skilled in their chosen trade, by progressing through an apprenticeship and working towards becoming a master craftsperson.
Core units you will study.
The course is broken down into units and includes:
• Health, Safety and Welfare in building services engineering
• Principles of electrical science
• Electrical installations technology
• Installation of wiring systems
• Understand how to communicate with others within building services engineering
Will I need a DBS check for this course?
No
Will I need any specific resources, uniform and/or kit?
No specialist uniform required. All tools supplied in the workshop. Students are expected to purchase their own Regulations Books:

What are the days and hours of the course?
Two days at college (Monday and Tuesday) and 3 days with their employer.
If you are offered an unconditional place, you will be given your timetable during induction in September.
Will I undertake work experience as part of the course?
Applicants will be employed as per entry criteria of the course. It is the responsibility of the learners to seek employment. Tutors will be able to provide useful advice in your employment journey.

What are my progression and career options?
Successful completion of the level 2 will allow students to progress onto the level 3 qualification.
How will I be assessed?
The qualification is assessed through a variety of assessment methods. These include online tests, written papers, projects or assignments, and practical observations.
Entry requirements
You will need to have a minimum of 2 GCSEs at grade C, including Maths and English or Functional Skills Level 2 in Maths and English. Mature entrants (over 18) may be allowed entry if they can demonstrate that they have an equivalent to the academic criteria via CV and interview. Preference will be given to applicants who have employment with a relevant employer (i.e. an electrical contractor).
