English, ESOL & Maths

To apply for an English course we will need to assess your current level of knowledge to ensure that the course is appropriate for you.

The placement assessment is all part of the service to ensure that students are given the best possible opportunity to develop new skills and succeed.

In some cases we may recommend that you attend our community English sessions to upskill with a view to future progression onto one of our qualification based courses.

The English assessment is a short written task completed at UCM and takes around 45 minutes. There is no preparation required.

Please note entry for the GCSE course for 23/24 is now closed. You can still register for a placement assessment for our 24/25 courses.

The maths assessment is completed online at UCM. You will be asked a series of short maths questions and it takes around 45 minutes.
