Nail Technology (VTCT Award Level 2)

What is the Course About?

This intensive course has been specifically designed to develop your practical skills in providing and maintaining nail enhancements using either UV gel or liquid and powder nail systems.

During class, you will work with your classmates to help develop the necessary practical skills.

This is ideal if you are a qualified therapist as you will be able to do this short evening course as your Continuing Professional Development (CPD) training.

What subjects will I study?

The qualification consists of one unit:

• Provide and maintain nail enhancements - this unit is about applying, maintaining and removing nail enhancements using UV gel, liquid, powder or wrap nail system. You will also learn about health and safety, client care and hygienic work practices for nail technicians.

What are my progression and career options?

Employment opportunities as a mobile or freelance nail technician in salons or cruise ships, worldwide. You may decide to enhance your nail technology skills by undertaking advanced courses in nail art & design.

How will I be assessed?

Your assessor will observe a minimum of six practical nail enhancement treatments within the Synnova Training Salon at UCM. Case studies will be completed in your own time while the underpinning knowledge is assessed through observations and supplemented with online multiple-choice exams, oral questions and written work. Evidence of work is compiled into an e-portfolio, which can be viewed and amended from any smartphone, tablet or computer with Internet access.

Entry requirements

• Unit N2 Provide Manicure Treatments or equivalent manicure qualification. The NVQ Award in Providing Manicure Services (VTCT Level 2) P1208 course is available at UCM if you do not already hold the relevant qualification.

• You will need good basic English and communication skills, be dextrous and computer literate.

Salon uniform and basic kit and equipment are required to enable you to complete your case studies and assessments, and are additional fees for this course.
