Manicure (VTCT Award Level 2)

What is the Course About?

This intensive course will provide you with the relevant skills and knowledge needed to be a manicurist.

During class, you will work with your classmates to manicure each other’s nails in order to help you to develop the necessary practical skills.

What subjects will I study?

The qualification consists of one unit:

• Provide Manicure Treatments - this unit is about providing manicure services to clients. You will learn about consulting with the client, recognising any contra-indications, preparing for the service and producing a treatment plan. You will also learn about filing and buffing the nails, using skin and cuticle treatments, massaging the hand and lower arm and using a suitable nail finish. You will need to carry out effective health, safety and hygienic working practices.

What are my progression and career options?

You can progress on to the NVQ Award in Providing Pedicure Services (VTCT Level 2) P1269 course or the Award in Nail Technology (VTCT Level 2) P1073 course, all available at UCM.

Employment opportunities include becoming a mobile or freelance nail technician, or working in cruise ships or salons worldwide.

How will I be assessed?

The underpinning knowledge will be assessed through online multiple-choice exams, oral questions and written work. Case studies will be completed in your own time.

Your assessor will observe a minimum of three practical manicure treatments within the Synnova Training Salon at UCM.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements; however, you will need have good basic English and communication skills, be dextrous and computer literate.

Salon uniform and basic kit and equipment are required to enable you to complete your case studies and assessments, and are additional fees for this course.
