UCM Launches New Leadership and Management Course

University College Isle of Man has launched a new course with City & Guilds ILM.

The qualification is designed for project managers, department heads and other middle managers to develop skills and experience, improve performance and prepare for senior management responsibilities.

The course covers managing stress and conflict in the organisation, managing customer relations, developing and leading teams to achieve organisational goals and objectives, assessing your own leadership capability and performance, becoming an effective leader, understanding the management role to improve management performance and motivating people in the workplace.

Students will attend face-to-face lecturers for three hours a week, currently scheduled to be held between 4pm – 7pm on Tuesdays, for 30 weeks.

As well as benefiting from the support of highly qualified and experience management lecturers, students will gain valuable insight from their fellow management students.

Vice Principal Joanne Richardson commented: ‘This is a great opportunity for managers to develop their knowledge and hone their skills to not only become great managers now, but to enable them to develop into future business leaders.

‘The course will enable students to develop their ability to lead and motivate staff as well as providing strategic insight.’

The programme is a level 5 certificate which is equivalent in level to the second year of an undergraduate bachelor’s degree.
