UCM’s Annie Gill Student-Run Café is Open for Christmas Bookings

University College Isle of Man’s student-run café will be introducing a Christmas themed festive menu from 13th December.

The Annie Gill is open for coffee and cake from 10.30am onwards and for lunchtime bookings between 10.30am-1pm, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursday’s term time.

The coffee bar is a training environment at UCM’s Homefield Road campus for students who are working towards qualifications and experience in food safety, customer care, barista coffee service as well as learning skills in food preparation, cooking and food and drink service.

Joanne Shaw, UCM Hospitality and Catering Lecturer, said: ‘Having a realistic working environment on site which is open to the public really helps those students who struggle with self-confidence, by building their interpersonal and communication skills. Our students are overseen by experienced lecturers all of whom have worked in the hospitality industry.

‘Occasionally, we have themed days throughout the year, where students decorate the café, change up the menu and dress to match the occasion. Our next theme will be for Christmas, and will incorporate Christmas baking displays and festive foods.’

There is a selection of hot and cold drinks, wholesome homemade soups and delicious homemade cakes prepared and served by friendly students.

The coffee bar is located on the ground floor of the Annie Gill wing and bookings are required for lunchtimes and themed days and can be made in person or by telephone on 648245 between 10am and 2pm Monday - Thursday.
