100% Pass for UCM’s Annie Gill Students

Students studying in University College Isle of Man’s (UCM) Annie Gill Real Working Environment (RWE) have all passed their Food Safety for Catering Award.

All of the students in this year’s cohort have passed their Highfield Level 1 Food Safety in Catering which included both practical and theory examinations.

The exam certifies that students understand the importance of minimising food hazards in order to protect consumer health.

The Annie Gill Coffee Bar, which sits within UCM’s Foundation Learning programme, is a training environment for students with additional needs. Students learn key skills associated with the hospitality and catering industry, in an environment with reflects a realistic professional setting, including customer service, cookery, hot beverage making, using a till and serving food.

(Mrs) Alison Higson, Programme Manager for Foundation Learning, said: ‘It’s fantastic that all of our students who study in The Annie Gill have passed this qualification, they should be very proud of themselves, as we are. As well as working on key skills that will help them gain employment when they complete their course, in Foundation Learning we work with students to build confidence and resilience, which are so important for their development and future success. ‘

The Annie Gill Coffee Bar is open to the public for lunch services throughout the year.
