New Degrees Offered at UCM

University College Isle of Man has added seven new degrees to its Higher Education offering in the areas of Art, Health & Social Care and Sport, with all courses being validated by the University of Chester.

UCM continually looks for ways to improve and broaden its learning opportunities, and the addition of seven degrees aims to encourage more people to consider pursing higher education level studies, equipping them with valuable skills to enter into a variety of exciting career paths.

There are four different pathways in BA (Hons) Health & Social Care degree, allowing students to specialise in their second and third years in Children & Young People, End of Life Care, Mental Health Studies and Public Health.

Having recently held an open meeting with employers and managers from the Adult Care sector to share thoughts on the future training and skills required to continue to support the Island’s social care sector, UCM has worked to strengthen its offering for care related courses.

Two new sports degrees have been added to UCM’s offering, with BSc (Hons) Sport Leadership & Development and BSc (Hons) Sport Science for Sport Performance now available.

John Lund, UCM Sport Lecturer, commented “We’re really pleased to be introducing two new degrees to our Higher Education offering. Although we have previously offered a Foundation degree, this is the first-time students have been able to complete a full undergraduate sports degree whilst remaining on-island.

The skills you develop during a sport related degree, can set you up for various career roles beyond those directly related to the area, such as analysis, problem-solving, time management, communication, evaluation, research, data collection and presentation.”

UCM are pleased to be offering a validated degree in BA (Hons) Creative Visual Practice, enabling students to specialise in their preferred creative areas whilst also developing skills for a range of artistic disciplines.

Upon successful completion, a wide range of careers are available to graduates depending on their specialism including, graphic or product design, becoming an artist, fashion, marketing and advertising, photography, publishing, film production and gallery curation.

Gail Corrin, UCM Higher Education Manager, said “We’re really pleased to be expanding our degree offering and continuing our close relationship with the University of Chester, who validate our degree programmes. We pride ourselves as being an Island leader in education and research, and it’s great to see our degree courses continue to grow in popularity.”

If you’re considering studying a degree, degree level, or postgraduate qualification, UCM will be holding an Open Evening on Thursday 16thNovember from 4pm.
