Riela Host UCM Cybersecurity Students

Cybersecurity experts, Riela Tech, opened their offices to UCM’s digital enterprise students to showcase their industry-leading work, skills and vast experience.

Ten students studying for their Cybersecurity degree at UCM visited the organisation’s Security Operations Centre (SOC) in Ballasalla where they enjoyed hearing real-world experiences, learning about industry best practice and the tricks of the trade.

Level five and six students were given a tour of the facilities including a demonstration to highlight the capabilities of the SOC.

Students were reminded of the need for continued learning within this ever-changing sector and the need to keep up-to-date with the latest cyber threats and techniques.

Joseph Ikhalia, Riela’s Cyber Security Engineer & Threat Management Lead said: “We’re so pleased that students from UCM could come along to our SOC to have a taste of working in this industry. Cybersecurity is not only interesting and fast-paced, but is hugely necessary in the world we live in so it’s incredibly important to us that we’re helping the next generation of cyber-experts with their education.

“It was great to see such an enthusiastic group of students who are clearly eager to learn as much as they can about cybersecurity and enter the industry in the next few years. We’re looking forward to seeing where their careers take them.”

Shannon Kaneen, BSc Cybersecurity degree student at UCM added: “We were all really inspired by our visit to Reila and the information we received about the industry was invaluable. Being able to connect with local experts and organisations is fantastic; not only now, but also for the future, it will no doubt help with our career progression once we graduate.”

For more information about this and any other courses, UCM is holding an information open event on 12th February between 9am and 1pm at the Homefield Road campus in Douglas.
