UCM has two welfare officers both of whom are based in Student Services.
Students can make appointments to speak to them in confidence about anything they may be upset or worried about. The welfare officers can also help students with issues such as
- managing stress or anger
- gaining a study-life balance
- exam worries
- building confidence
- managing bereavement
- time management
- gender issues
- and many more
They also provide a key advocacy role for students and can promote positive communication between students, parents and tutors. The welfare officers liaise with a number of external agencies on behalf of UCM students and are available during the summer.
The welfare officers regularly assist students in their transition from high school to further education by offering practical and emotional support throughout the summer period. They take a proactive approach to boosting resilience and promoting emotional wellbeing by delivering a varied tutorial programme and facilitating group workshops.
