BTEC Level 5 HND in Engineering (General Engineering)

What is the Course About?

This course is designed to be studied on a part-time basis, one day per week, over two academic years. The course is intended for those persons who are currently employed in engineering and wanting to progress their industrial careers.

What subjects will I study?

Seven units are to be studied during the two-year period, from the following listing (although please note this listing is for guidance only and can be subject to change):

• Research Project (double core unit)

• Professional Engineering Management (core)

• Further Mathematics (core)

• Lean Manufacturing (core)

• Virtual Engineering

• Advanced Mechanical Principles

• Advanced Manufacturing Technology

[Note: each unit is typically designated as requiring 150 hours of study

What are my progression and career options?

Degree level study, Entry into employment.

How will I be assessed?

Progress in most units will be monitored by continuous assessment, predominantly through the use of written assignments and closed/open-book tests, but also through case studies, project work and presentations.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements can be in any of the following qualifications (or their equivalent):

• A BTEC Level 4 HNC in an Engineering discipline RQF Qualification.

• For those who hold a NQF or QCF HNC Qualification bridging studies be required at level 4.

You will be required to undertake an aptitude test as part of the application process.
